Review: Stay With Me by Elyssa Patrick

With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me

My Thoughts…

Hailey Bloom is super famous and she has been practically her whole life. She is so fed up with her life that she decides to leave it all to live “normally” and attend college in Vermont. In her attempt to be normal she attends a house party where she is bombarded by fans who want autographs and to talk to her. *this is so not normal*

At the party she meets this guy…a super intriguing, sexy guy who seems a little different…

Instead I take a step to the side and away from him. I decide to state the obvious anyway. “You know who I am.”

He shakes his head slowly. “I don’t think I do.”

“I know of you, but I don’t know you.”

“You know my name,” I point out. And probably a lot of other details, too- stuff that people don’t willingly talk about. Stuff that I wish people didn’t know.

“But you didn’t tell me.”

Hailey is so swept away by Caleb that she knows she needs to run. She’s not in Vermont to kiss guys or have stories sold about her “getting around” to the tabloids. She needs to focus on school, which is something that doesn’t come natural to her, and make something of herself. The next day she bumps into Caleb (literally!) while out touring her new city. After some pretty sexy flirting involving a blackberry (think on that for a minute!)…one thing leads to another and he kisses her. And whew! What a kiss! She was completely hooked until he muttered an ill-timed “I’m sorry about that.” Welllllll, that snapped Hailey back into reality and she high tails it out of his townhome.

Now that Hailey’s mind is back on track, she’s not going to let Caleb get to her. (we all roll our eyes and say “right….”)

I thought this book was a fun read. Hailey is cool and pretty down to earth, Caleb is hot and sweet (dangerous combo!), Daphne and the gang are good supporting characters (with a story of their own coming?). The secret issue Hailey is scared will get out isn’t too dramatic. I mean, it sucks, but it’s definitely not a legitimate reason for Caleb to leave her or not like her. Also, I loved how Caleb encouraged her to do what she loves.

And maybe…I can be a little braver after all. Maybe it’s time I do things even when I’m scared and don’t back away…I don’t need to hold myself back because I’m unsure of what tomorrow will bring…what the future holds in store.

The ending is a semi cliff-hanger. Hailey and Caleb are in a good place, but there’s no limit to the trouble that could possibly come their way! (cough cough her mother!) So I’m looking forward to book 2 of this series!

My Caleb and Hailey-

What I thought-

I absolutely loved this book!

So, i’m a huge fan of sci-fi and romance, so when they’re together…I get pumped! And let me tell you…this book did not disappoint! First of all, it’s extremely well written! I thought that it kept a great pace and I never got bored! Plus there were no awkward moments where I got confused or wasn’t sure what was happening! The world that Kimberly created was super interesting. She weaved together this futuristic world that was so cool to read about…and eerily terrifying…what if that’s us in 50 years! eek!

The characters were incredible. All of them were dynamic and realistic. They all had enough back story so we got to know them a little better. The story is addicting. I stayed up way too late because I didn’t want to put it down!!

I don’t want to give anything away, but it was just the right mix for romance, intrigue, sci-fi and action!! I highly recommend this book! You won’t regret it!

Review: Let You Leave (novella) & Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn

Let You Leave

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart.

Keep Me Still

Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she’s built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.

My thoughts…

I try not to live in the past. But sometimes the past lives in me. – James Ford

In the edition of this book that I bought, Let You Leave and Keep Me Still came together. So I really can’t differentiate the two stories in my head, hence a review of both! And wow! These books are phenomenal! You honestly can’t help but fall in love with this story.

Layla and Landen are both soooo strong. Layla’s parents were killed in an accident that left her dealing with seizures for the rest of her life and Landen’s home life is appalling at best. Landen shows up senior year when Layla has decided to try going back to public school. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to go to school when you know that at any moment a loud noise could make you have a seizure. Plus, it’s not like you just convulse and fall down (which is bad enough) but you can lose control of your bladder and wet yourself. I think that’s mortifying enough to have any person hiding at home. But Layla is strong. Despite people not wanting to talk to her or be her friend and calling her names, she goes back to school. (snaps of respect for Layla, right?!) Well, Landen is new in town and he’s not going to let anything bad happen to the beautiful, quiet and mysterious girl. He befriends her, makes her feel normal and takes care of her when not very normal things happen to her. But for real, Landen is incredible.

Landen’s problems at home come to a boil and he has to move away mid-year. Miscommunications are the name of this game and Layla and Landen are torn apart. Layla closes back up, not willing to deal with any more hurt that relationships with others can cause. Landen is more resolved than ever to win her back.

“There’s never been an end for us, as far as I’m concerned. Love changes. Yeah, sure. It twists and grows, and maybe for some people it evolves into something different. But for me, all I feel for you has only gotten stronger. More intense and overpowering. I love you, dammit. I never had a choice when it came to that. Did I do some stupid shit because I was afraid you might not love me back? Hell yeah. But I’m a fuck up like my dad says. So what did you expect?” -Landen

I love how he pursued her whole heartedly throughout this whole book. He was so passionate about Layla and wanted her with everything in him. It took a lot for her to finally push him away. She feels so broken an unfixable that she can’t fathom him wanting to be with her.

Landen saw me. He brought me back to life. And then he left. Then I brought myself back. And we got a second chance. But now I wish I’d just stayed numb, kept going through the motions so I wouldn’t hurt like this.

I won’t go into any more details…but the end is so good. Like milk chocolate, kissing in the rain, paris in fall kinda good!

Suddenly, I have no idea why we’ve been doing this to each other. It’s love. Plain and simple. You love someone, you show it. Every day, up until your last.

*happy sigh*

My Landen and Layla-

Review: Indelible by Bethany Lopez

After a year of partying, Sam decides to buckle down and focus on college. Things are going great until a one-night stand leaves her pregnant and alone. Raising a child while going to school isn’t easy, but Sam is determined to be strong for her daughter. She doesn’t have time for guys or relationships, and takes great care to protect her child and her heart.

Judd doesn’t fit the mold of a college ballplayer. His long hair and tattoos may fit the life he’s created for himself, but baseball is the one thing he takes seriously. When he meets Sam, he’s immediately drawn to her curves and refusal to put up with his crap. When Judd learns the truth, can he handle the responsibility that comes with loving a single mother?

Sam yearns for the fire that Judd fuels in her, but her child’s needs have to come first. Can two people at different stages in their life find a way to make a life together?

What I think…

This story is totally swoon worthy! First of all, I loved the chemistry between Judd and Sam. They were so hot for each other, but it wasn’t just surface level. Judd proved to be an incredible man over the course of the book. He starts out kind of questionable, but he steps up and becomes this awesome partner to Sam. I also loved that he got to follow his dreams! I wouldn’t been sad if this book ended any other way!

This is definitely a sweet romance. There isn’t much conflict and everything is mostly smooth sailing!

ARC Review: Ties by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt

Pre-order here! Available August 26, 2013!!

Ties is a companion book in the Lengths series NOT a sequel. It was written as a stand-alone title. The other books do not need to be read prior to Ties in order to follow the story.

When a shiny new convertible arrives for her twenty-first birthday, Hattie Beckett has had enough of her absent dad trying to buy a place in her life. It’s time for him to face her–or get out of her life forever.

She tosses some clothes in a bag, looks up her father’s last known address, and sets her GPS for Silver Stand, California.

When she arrives at a beach-bum paradise that’s totally foreign to her New England upbringing and finds nothing but an empty lot where her dad maybe once lived, her immediate instinct is to pack up her car and head right back to Connecticut.

But she also finds… Deo. The half-brother she never knew she had. He and his hippy-dippy mom insist that Hattie stick around—at least for the summer. And with all of her friends spending the summer abroad, what else does she have to do?

Her ideas about family are blown wide open as Deo and Marigold pull her in with their charm and love. But there’s still a huge question mark where her dad is concerned, and that question mark definitely looms over her ideas about love and relationships.

When Hattie meets Ryan, the college dropout turned competitive sailor, her perspective flips with her heart. Like it or not, Hattie is falling fast and hard for Ryan… even if it’s the last thing that she expected – and the last thing her newly found brother wants for her.

What I think…

Solid addition to the Lengths series!!

What I enjoyed most- how Hattie finds and connects with her family and how they just adopt her instantly and start to love on her! What a family!! I loved getting to see more of Deo, Marigold, Grandpa and Whit. I loved getting a dose of the Rodriguez family! I loved the “solution” at the end of the book, very sweet and I actually didn’t have it pegged before I finished! yay! RYAN. He is a saint! And I liked his growth throughout the book, he truly became the person he set out to become. I loved the sailing…i’ve never done it, but i’m in love with the idea!

Hattie. oh Hattie. You and I just don’t connect. All your rules and stipulations…I don’t like them! And I get that you’re just trying to protect your heart and all that….it just makes me sad how you keep pushing Ryan away. (WHY CAN’T YOU SEE WHAT’S IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE!)

I am also not a fan of Deo and Hattie’s father. I didn’t want Hattie to accept him, even the tiny bit that she did. He didn’t deserve it. (ohh he makes my blood boil!)

I really liked this book. I even stayed up super late to finish it! (our AC had gone out so it was super hot, but i just couldn’t put it down!) And despite not connecting with Hattie, i’d highly recommend this book and the others in the series! There are so many other things in it that completely made it worth it! and of course the ending, it was really good.

My Ryan and Hattie-

She loves Raisinettes, even if they aren’t really candy, the Oxford comma, movies that are hilarious or feature zombies, any and all books, but especially romance (the smarter and hotter, the better), the sound of her daughter’s incessantly wise and entertaining chatter, and watching her husband work on cars in the driveway.

Review: Limits by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt

Let me just say- I am loving this series by Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt! They are fabulous authors separately, but together they’ve created this cast of lovable characters and heart wrenching, addicting stories. First a little back ground…book one is called Lengths (hence the series being called by the same name), and book 2 is Depths. Lengths is the story of Deo and Whit. Depths is the story of Cohen and Maren. Deo and Cohen are best friends. Cohen is part of a big family, the Rodriguez’s. Deo’s hippy mother is Marigold. Honestly, I love almost every character in these books. They are all so relatable and you can’t help but wish you were part of this big crazy group!!

Book 3 in the Lengths series is Limits. This book follows Genevieve Rodriguez (Cohen’s little sis) and Adam Abramowitz. We meet Gen in the other stories, but don’t care too much for her. She’s always had a crush on Deo, her brother’s best friend, and she’s kind of a brat. I even wasn’t too fond of her in the first couple pages of this book.

Genevieve tilts her head to one side, so all her long, dark hair hangs down in a curtain. “Do you try to be this boring all the time? Like, is it work, or does it just come to you organically?” “This conversation is adorable, but can we get to work?” I tap my pen on her backpack and ignore the fact that, yes, I noticed how short and tight and totally hot her outfit is.

Gen is having a hard time. Her family expects so much, but she feels like she keeps letting them down. She doesn’t want to work at her parent’s furniture store her whole life, but no is pushing her try anything else…no is really even interested in if she’s happy. (or at least that’s how it seems.) She’s about to fail one of her classes and despite that this should be the least of her worries…her tutor, Adam, doesn’t notice her. But things start to click into place when she gets a bit of advice from Marigold, Deo’s mother.

“If you find that one person who believes in you, helps you combat your doubts, lifts you up when you’re ready to lie down and say ‘screw it’? If you find that person, grab tight. So tight. Never let go.”

Gen knows who that person is.

The one person who believes in me even when I put on my best ‘I don’t care’ act? The one person who sees through my every attempt to slack off and fail? The one person who insists i’m more than I tell him I am? Adam. Adam. Adam.

Gen starts to pursue Adam and boy is he confused. Is this a date…no, it’s not a date…well, maybe it is…ok, definitely not. Poor guy! When Adam shares with Gen that his student visa is about to expire she proposes a plan. Marriage.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this story. I loved that they were married while working out their feelings for each other. Maybe it’s silly of me but it’s like i’m not as anxious about the ending, because their together. Those books where the characters are separated or split up the whole time stress me out! But anywho…Gen becomes super lovable and probably the female character i’ve related to most. Adam is nerdy and bookish and not all sporty, plus super sexy, so bonus!! I highly recommend that you read this book!

“Every good thing is work the fight. And a really good man? He’s worth a whole damn smack down.”

My Adam and Genevieve-

Review: Abel (5th Street #4) by Elizabeth Reyes

Elizabeth Reyes is one of my favorite authors! Top five, for sure! I can count on loving every book that she writes. So far she has three series- The Moreno Brothers, 5th Street and Fate. I LOVE all of them and highly recommend them!!

Abel is book 4 in the 5th Street series. This series focuses on a group of friends in East Los Angeles. They all work, own and hang out at the 5th Street Gym. Up until now, Noah was my favorite. Now he’s a close second, right behind Abel!! Abel is getting ready to fight in the biggest and most important fight of his life. He needs to focus 100% on training, but there’s this girl in the way- Nellie. Nellie is coming off of the worst divorce in history. Her husband cheated on her with her own sister and she is still reeling from how quick her life flipped upside down. She’s ready to focus on work and herself, it’s time she got to let loose and have all the experiences she missed when she married young. Now she’s 29 and Abel Avaya, 22, wants her…and she wants him. One night, aided by their alcohol consumption, they give in to one another. Abel thought one night with Nellie would scratch the itch he had for her, little did he know that it was just the beginning. Now they can’t get enough of each other.

“After sex with Abel, it’d be like indulging in a rich strawberry cheesecake dessert with loads of whip cream and the promise of no weight gain then giving it up for a rice cake with a dab of peanut butter. She’d never go back to that again.”

Nellie is enjoying her little set up with Abel- she’s having the best sex of her life! They have an agreement though- no getting personal, no promises, no demanding time, etc. But what happens when they each start to feel more for each other? Nellie and Abel are each convinced the other person isn’t interested in more of a relationship…but they couldn’t be more wrong. There are tons of sweet, passionate moments between these two as they start to fall more and more in love with each other, even when they don’t know it!

The closer and closer that Abel’s big fight gets, the more they are unsure of each other’s feelings. The paparazzi are hounding Abel and printing pictures of him with other girls, girls that are just friends. Nellie, convinced that Abel doesn’t want anything serious with her, goes out with another guy. Things become super clear to Abel when he sees Nellie with another man.

“I can’t do this anymore, Nell. I know you’re not looking for a serious relationship, but I can’t fucking stand the thought of you with someone else.”

Everything comes to a boil on the day of Abel’s big fight. Secrets come out and lies are told. But, like with all books by Reyes, we get the best ending possible. Seriously, I’m jealous of her brain! She thinks up the best stuff!

“It’s true,” he smiled, “not just in love, Nell, but hopeless, there’s-no-helping-this-guy kind of in love with you.”

My Abel and Nellie-

Review: Intentional by MK Harkins

I love romance with an edge! To be honest, when I started Intentional I had no idea what to expect. I typically read a blurb on a book before I download but lots of the times I won’t refresh my memory on a book before I start it. I feel like I start the book clear headed and with no preconceived notions about what I think will happen from the blurb. So when I read the prologue, I had a ton of “red flags” (you know what I’m talking about) going off in my head!

But enough about that…Mattie is your all-around good girl. She’s kind, pretty and loyal. She’s had to move around a lot because of her father’s job but at the age of 10 she finally gets to settle down and make friends, namely Sarah.

Fast forward 13 years and Mattie and Sarah have moved to Sedona to start their lives. Sarah is a lawyer who graduated at the top of her class and Mattie is a graphic designer. Sarah got a job at a highly respected law firm in Sedona so Mattie moved there with her best friend to start her design business. One day while visiting Sarah at work, Mattie meets Jeremy. He’s one of Sarah’s bosses and a partner at the law firm. They have an immediate connection. It takes Mattie a long time to be able to open up to Jeremy. She’s been cheated on in the past and her best friend isn’t a huge fan of them being together. Actually, Sarah makes it perfectly clear that she isn’t happy with Mattie and Jeremy being together. Hmmm…

Fast forward thru the book and Mattie and Jeremy are deliriously happy. Until one night. Everything that Mattie was afraid of, everything that kept her from opening her heart, happens.

This book is super intriguing. I had this “something bad is going to happen” feeling the whole time! It was kinda fun! The ending is definitely perfect, just what I wanted! And it set up nicely for the next book! Can’t ask for anything better!

ABOUT GREED (Book 2 in the Seven Deadly Series):

Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours…because that’s what I do. I want.

My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.

I’m Spencer Blackwell…And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Cover Reveal: Loving Cara by Kristen Proby

In her sizzling new series, USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby sets the stage for a passionate reunion under the breathtaking Montana sky.
Cara Donovan’s summer tutoring job is turning out to be a challenge—and not just because of her troubled twelve-year-old student. It’s his uncle Josh who’s the real problem. If problem is the word for an irresistibly cocky, muscle-bound rancher with a taste for tight Levi’s and shameless flirtation. . . .
Cara is nothing like the wallflower Josh King remembers good-naturedly teasing in high school. This Cara is gorgeous, confident, fun. From the moment the fiery teacher steps foot on his family’s Lazy K Ranch, the stubborn playboy is determined to corral her. So what happens when his luscious lover takes over the reins?
The first in a steamy trilogy, Kristen Proby’s enthralling novel is filled to the brim with one hardworking family’s triumphs and challenges, all the wild adventure of the modern West, and a whole lot of titillating fun.
“Where are your jeans?” Josh asks as he meets me at my car the following morning.
“These are jeans.” I pull my tote bag out of the car and walk toward the front door of his house. “Is Seth here yet?”
“No, he’ll be a few minutes. I have him feeding the dogs at the big house.”
“Those are not jeans.” He’s scowling down at my denim shorts like they’re the devil incarnate.
“They’re denim.”
He narrows his chocolate eyes at me, but I see the humor there, and the butterflies take up residence in my belly again.
I love riling this guy up.
“Fine, they’ll have to do. Go ahead and get settled, Seth will be here in a minute. I have to ride out with a few of the guys to repair a fence, so I’ll see you at lunch time.” He pulls on some gloves and settles his green baseball cap on his head backwards again.
“You don’t wear cowboy hats?” I ask without thinking.
“Not usually. I have one, if you’d rather I wear it.” He smirks.
“No, just curious,” I mumble and head toward the house.
“Don’t leave before I get back. I have plans for you.”
He grins wide, winks, and saunters off toward the massive barn that sits between his house and the big house.
Well, isn’t that view nice? His Levi’s hug his ass perfectly and sit low on his hips, and as he walks I can see his buttocks and thighs flex.
Dear God, I’m lusting after a rancher.
