Blog Tour: Give Me Something by Elizabeth Lee

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00008]

Here’s the deal… I learned a long time ago that sometimes you have to use what you’ve got to make things happen. What I happen to have is a pretty smile, long legs and the ability to make men believe anything I say. Before you get on your high horse and start judging me, can you honestly say you’ve never batted your lashes at some guy for a free drink at the bar? That’s what I thought.

Keep that in mind as I tell you my story of how I took it one step further. My story of lies, deceit, manipulation and love. Yeah, love. Believe me, it fits. Especially, when you factor in Nick and Tucker – one had my heart and the other one wanted it all for himself. Which one? Well, I can’t tell you that. It would defeat the purpose of the story. If I’m going to fill you in about me, Lila Garrison, and my life as a con artist you’re going to need to know all the facts, including the ones about the two guys who made me want to give up the life of fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, fast cars and easy money. Because sometimes, one person can give you something that’s more valuable than all of that.

If you’re still interested, stick around. Just remember, I’m pretty good at convincing people to do what I want, so if by the end of this whole thing you feel worked over, don’t say I didn’t warn you

My thoughts-

Give Me Something by Elizabeth Lee was so good! I loved the storyline and most of the characters!

I thought the con artist storyline was fun and kinda reminded me of the Great Exploitations series by Nicole Williams. (If you like this book, you’ll like that series and vice versa) Lila Rae Garrison uses her looks to get things from men. Lila and her “I not-so-secretly want to be with him” best friend Nick make bank off the unsuspecting scoundrels who are looking for a little action for a younger, sexier woman. Then she meets her final target, Tucker Kline. Nick is telling her that he’s not a nice guy and deserves this, but she doesn’t quite see that. For most of the book Nick made me feel slimy. Tons of red flags were flying and for good cause. He’s a little too sneaky and Lila trusts him too much for her own good. Tucker Kline is a freaking sexy, gentleman! He plays the ultimate nice guy. I’m Team Tucker!!

I liked the surprises toward the end…there were two that I can remember. It all wrapped up nicely and we even got a glimpse into the future, I love when authors do that!

I’m on the lookout for more books! Looks like Nick is getting a book coming out Feb. 18, 2014!

My Tucker and Lila-

Release Day Launch: Storm Warning by E. Lee and C. Quinn

C. Quinn and E. Lee’s amazing new novel in their Broken Heartland Series, STORM WARNING, is out today and we are excited to join in the release day launch for it. STORM WARNING is a thrilling Young Adult Contemporary you are not going to want to miss! Check out what we have for you today and then enter to win in the release day launch giveaway! There’s also a fantastic excerpt for you. But be aware! The Storm Is Coming…

Hope’s Grove was small. Everyone knew about her parents, and she was already dreading
facing them since the news of her dad’s affair had hit. But facing them without
her brother and her best friend would be her worst nightmare.

After the girls had said their goodbyes and she’d watched her friend’s taillights
fade down the drive, Ella Jane scuffed her boots along the winding dirt road
that led her home.

She was about halfway there, watching the sun sink low in the evening sky, when the
unmistakable rumble of a pickup truck came barreling down the road behind her.
She stepped aside to let it pass without looking back. But it didn’t pass. It
slowed practically to a stop right next her.

She turned, wondering what the heck the driver’s deal was. There was more than
enough room for him to go around. But the smiling face beneath the backwards
trucker hat sent the words on the tip of her tongue swirling away with the dust
the truck had riled up.

She bit her lip and grinned. Warm brown eyes gleamed in her direction. “Hey there,
Ellie May. Need a ride?”

She rolled her eyes. Why Brantley Cooper couldn’t call her by her actual name was
beyond her. But as long as he was talking to her, she really didn’t care much
what he called her. He can call me ‘flower’ if he wants to.

He was a year older than her and a year younger than her older brother, Kyle. Smack in the middle of their ages and grades in
school and usually smack in the middle of their arguments. Coop kept the peace.
Balanced them out perfectly.

The three of them had met at the same time as kids but Coop and Kyle had become like brothers instantly. She’d always tagged along
wherever they went. Kyle had whined about it when they were younger but Coop
always made her feel welcome. He held doors open for her so she didn’t get left
behind, made sure to invite her despite her brother’s protests, and lately he’d
even stopped by and hung out even when Kyle wasn’t home. And this year, she’d
be a junior and Coop would be a senior. With her big brother away at college,
she couldn’t help but fantasize about what might happen if she and Coop spent
time together alone.

“Hey, Coop. Lynlee just left so I was just…” She glanced toward home. Kyle wasn’t
back from football camp yet, and her mom was baking herself to death, trying to
keep her mind off of everything.

“Yeah, I heard the Wicked Witch was moving west. You up for some fishing? I have to
drop my bike off at the house but we could swing by the lake after.”

She should get home. She knew she should. Should order a pizza and convince her mom
to take it easy for a night. Except…it was Coop. And in all her sixteen years,
he was the one boy she’d never been able to say no to.

“Yeah. Yeah I’m up for it.”

ABOUT STORM WARNING (Book 1 in the Broken Heartland Series):

Sometimes you don’t see the storm coming until it’s
too late…

Severe Storm Warning Tip #1:

Be alert to changing weather conditions. Look for approaching storms.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #2:

If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs, be prepared to take
shelter immediately.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #3:

They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.

Situated just outside of Oklahoma City, Calumet County is divided into two
drastically different communities: Hope’s Grove and Summit Bluffs. One is the
small backward town where dirt roads lead the way to field parties and railroad
tracks. And the other, a sprawling suburb where paved drives lead to the
landscaped lawns of the wealthy and privileged.

For five teenagers smack in the middle of Tornado Alley, summer is heating up
fast. The winds of change are blurring the invisible line that divides the rich
and the rural.

One has a secret.

One has a crush.

One has been lying.

One will get caught.

And one might not make it out alive.

They’re from two different worlds…but one summer is about to change everything.

About C. Quinn and E. Lee:

Whether you believe in
destiny, divine intervention, or just plain ol’ dumb luck, several
things happened in 2013 that caused E. Lee and C. Quinn’s
paths to cross. It may have been that the stars aligned perfectly,
or the fact anytime Luke Bryan was mentioned on a social media site both
of them were tagged, or maybe it was just that their small town roots and
country girl attitudes were magnetically drawn together—calling out to one
another, “Y’all should write a book!” Despite geography keeping them apart—Lee
in Illinois and Quinn in Alabama—they did. Thanks to three-hour phone calls,
ridiculous amounts of online chats, and umpteen Google Docs—Storm Warning is
the first book in their edgy new Young Adult series,  Broken Heartland.

ARC Review: Masquerade (Games #3) by Nyrae Dawn

Coming out on January 7, 2014. Pre-order here! See my review for Facade (Games #2) here.

A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.

Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he’s ever seen. She’s wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.

Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker’s body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.

Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .

My thoughts-

Whoa! (Seriously, that’s what I thought!!) Nyrae Dawn blew me away with Charade. I was fond of Façade. But Masquerade…I fell head over heels in love with this book!

Masquerade is book 3 of the Games Series. I recommend reading the other books so you’ll understand the back story. Bee and Maddox are my favorite couple of this series. Maddox is so dark and deep. I loved his passion for drawing and his desire to become a tattoo artist. Bee totally understood him. She has one of the coolest (and heart breaking) back stories. It was just so unique, and I thought it was neat how she used her past experiences as inspiration for her name and tattoos. Maddox and Bee’s struggles are so raw and painful; I felt so broken for them.

I don’t understand it. Don’t get how people can love someone and want them to be someone different or love them and hurt them. – Bee

This is a beautifully well written book that answers Bee’s question- “How do you love like that?”

My Maddow and Bee-

Blog Tour: Staying On Top (Whitman University #4) by Lyla Payne

Sam Bradford has it all—he’s the #2 tennis player in the world, plenty of girls want to date him, and he’ll never want for money. At least, that’s what he thought until his accountant stole everything and disappeared. Interpol has no idea where to start, and neither does the American F.B.I., so Sam figures he’ll just have to take care of his body and play a few extra years to make it back.

When Blair Paddington, the accountant’s daughter and a friend of a friend at Whitman, shows up and claims she can help Sam get his money back he’s torn between wanting justice and the very real possibility that Blair is just as big a con man as her father. When she promises not only money, but justice, Sam agrees—but only if he can go along on the search.

The two of them set off on an adventure neither rich kid is prepared for—cheap hostels, the same clothes three days in a row, and nothing but a backpack of possessions—so they can fly under the radar as college lovers on a winter break. In spite of Blair’s shady family, her daring and resourceful personality strike Sam’s interest and he finds himself falling for the one girl he shouldn’t.

When they finally find her father, the truths that come to light not only make Sam question his affection for Blair, but could cost him more than money—if they can’t work together one last time, neither of them may be going home. Ever.

My thoughts-

Lyla Payne has done it again! I have loved every single book in the Whitman University series and now we have another great addition! While each book is a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading all of them!

This book is a well written, fast paced European adventure! Sam, our tennis pro hottie, has been swindled of all his money. (lots and lots of money) Blair’s father is the culprit and she swears she can help him get it all back. All of the characters in this book are top notch. Sam is a sweetheart and super charming, Blaire is complicated and such a dynamic character. You can tell that Lyla pours everything she has into her characters. The pace is fast and well-kept during the whole book…you will start reading and by the time you glance up it’ll be dark outside!

I can’t tell you how much I love this book and series- go read them all!!

lylaI’ve long had a love of stories. A few years ago decided to put them down on the page, and even though I have a degree in film and television, novels were the creative outlet where I found a home. I’ve published Young Adult under a different name, but when I got the idea for Broken at Love (my first New Adult title), I couldn’t wait to try something new – and I’m hooked.  In my spare time I watch a ton of tennis (no surprise, there), play a ton of tennis, and dedicate a good portion of brain power to dreaming up the next fictitious bad boy we’d all love to meet in real life.

Blog Tour: Gabriel’s Redemption by Sylvain Reynard

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Gabriel’s Rapture and Gabriel’s Inferno comes the epic conclusion to the captivating romantic trilogy.

Professor Gabriel Emerson has left his position at the University of Toronto to embark on a new life with his beloved Julianne. Together, he’s confident that they can face any challenge. And he’s eager to become a father.

But Julianne’s graduate program threatens Gabriel’s plans, as the pressures of being a student become all consuming. When she is given the honor of presenting an academic lecture at Oxford, Gabriel is forced to confront Julianne about the subject of her presentation—research that conflicts with his own. And in Oxford, several individuals from their past appear, including an old nemesis intent on humiliating Julia and exposing one of Gabriel’s darkest secrets.

In an effort to confront his remaining demons, Gabriel begins a quest to discover more about his biological parents, beginning a chain of events that has startling repercussions for himself, Julianne, and his hope of having a family.

My thoughts-

I highly recommend this series. Obviously, if you haven’t read the first two, please do so! Gabriel’s Redemption is the third and final book of this series and you will absolutely love it!

Gabriel and Julianne are sticking together in this book, which made me super happy. I don’t think that after all the issues and separations in the first two books that I could have handled another upset. Gabriel has grown so much since book one. He is loving, considerate and super attentive to Julianne. Julianne struggles with when she’d like to start a family- would she be able to handle having a child and finishing school or should she wait? Overall, there wasn’t a ton of conflict in this book and the issues that arose weren’t too bad. I appreciated that. Julianne and Gabriel definitely deserve their happily ever after!

Bio: I’m interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition – particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I’m also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Twitter account.

Book Review: A Basic Renovation by Sandra Antonelli

When it comes down to it, rats in the oven trump Lesley’s desire to never set eyes on another Brennan family member. So Lesley, a pro at property redevelopment, scrambles to Dominic Brennan’s hardware store for supplies. Dominic knows poison — rat and otherwise — and he sees it in Lesley. The woman ruined his brother’s life. Now that she’s back in town, Dominic’s afraid she’ll drag up the past, the secrets, and the pain. They clash immediately, but mix in a teenage boy, a puppy, some white paint, and some loud music, and what starts as cold fury transforms into a nuclear attraction. This basic renovation becomes a major life refurbishment for them both.

My thoughts-

Well…part of me didn’t want to read this book because I’m currently renovating my own house and I typically read to try and forget about it. But I took the plunge.

Things I liked- Lesley, Dominic, Kyle, GP and the puppy. I liked the history between the characters…it wasn’t a “love at first sight” type book. I liked that they were older. I liked the house renovation part, believe it or not! It was funny and made me laugh. And the crappy parts were super realistic…I’m an expert, trust me.

Things that were just ok- the ending. I wanted more…something that would grab my heart and squeeze.

Things that drove me nuts- the families!! I wanted to strangle all of them! They were well written, but she wrote such great “unlikable” characters! Bravo! So depending on how you look at this, it could be considered a “like!”

If you like a more mature romance with tons of witty dialogue, this book is for you!

Cover Reveal and Excerpt: Savor by Monica Murphy

New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy concludes her sexy Billionaire Bachelors Club series with a fiery romance that refuses to be left at the office…

Bryn James can’t take much more. Smart, sexy Matthew DeLuca is everything she wants in a man, but he’s also her boss—the youngest, hottest vineyard owner in the Napa Valley—and he doesn’t see her as anything more than his shy assistant. That’s all about to change. Armed with a hot new look and an attitude to match, Bryn is determined to catch Matt’s eye… professionalism be damned.

With his winery’s grand reopening approaching, Matt is trying to stay focused, but Bryn is suddenly making it very difficult. He’s always thought her prim demeanor effortlessly sexy, but Matt can’t deny that her transformation is jaw-dropping …and going to make it very difficult to keep his hands to himself.

But when one thing leads to another and suddenly Matt is stripping Bryn bare, he’ll be faced with the biggest risk of his career—and his heart. Can he convince her—and himself—that this might just be more than a no-strings office affair?

“Don’t be so cranky. It’s okay to admit you have a thing for Bryn.” Ivy leans forward in her chair, a secretive smile curling her lips. “I have a feeling she has a thing for you too, you know.”
I do know. And I can’t act on it. Bryn James works for me. She’s my assistant. She’s by my side constantly; we spend more time with each other than probably anyone else in our lives, especially lately what with the winery’s grand reopening approaching. She’s a representative of my business. If I were to fuck around with the help and the relationship fell apart, I’d be in huge trouble. She could screw me over financially every which way by suing me for sexual harassment and I’d be left with a limp dick in my hand and a ruined business.
Yeah. Not going to take the chance. Saw it happen with my father. Not going to let it happen to me.
“It doesn’t matter. Nothing can happen.” I send Ivy a stern look. “And this conversation can never leave this office.” Glancing over her shoulder, I try to see if Bryn is at her desk but the chair is empty.
Thank Christ.
Ivy’s expression goes solemn and she holds up three fingers. “This conversation stays here. Scout’s honor.”
“You were never a scout,” I mutter, afraid she’s making a promise on an untruth. She’ll probably just blab to everyone. Or specifically Archer and Gage. I don’t need to hear their shit.
And I am worrying way too much over this.
She laughs again. “I won’t say a word, I promise. But I need to tell you something, Matt.” She leans in close, her voice dropping. “She’s got a major crush on you. You might not see it but it’s there—sounding in her voice, shining in her eyes, every time she looks at you, talks about you. The way her body turns into yours every time the two of you are together . . . it’s pretty obvious. A body language expert would have a field day with you two.”
Body language expert? What the hell is Ivy talking about? “I have no idea what you’re referring to, but office crushes are just that. Crushes. Harmless attractions no one ever acts on. Period. End of story.”
This is what I keep telling myself. I can’t pursue anything with Bryn, no matter how much I’m tempted to. Not only would it be wildly inappropriate, dating my assistant, but we come from two different worlds. She seems nice and normal, quiet and unobtrusive, and I am anything but. My life has been a circus sideshow for years.
“I get it. You’re trying to do the right thing, and I admire that. So, of course you don’t see anything beyond an efficient assistant in Miss James.”
Well. Ivy’s not too far off the mark. When I first met Bryn, she hardly said two words, kept her head bent when I spoke to her and offered lots of yes-sir and no-sir answers. She had this way of almost blending in with the walls, like she didn’t want anyone to notice her.
So I didn’t.
As we got comfortable working together though, something happened. I’m thinking Ivy had a hand in Bryn’s slow transformation. She actually makes eye contact when she speaks to me, and she’s become somewhat animated. Started to wear bolder colors as well, drawing my attention to her chest though I keep my eyes averted as best I can.
These subtle changes made me notice all of the little things—like the color of her eyes (blue), how her hair looks (like silk and I want to touch it), and the tempting fullness of her lips (they’re spectacular).
Her gaze lingers when she looks at me and sometimes so does mine. Her smile softens, her voice drops lower when she speaks, sparking my imagination. Would she sound like that right before I kissed her? Took off her clothes? Took her to my bed?
Yeah. All of those are dangerous thoughts. I almost prefer the old Miss James. The one who was like the wallpaper—boring and nondescript. Mean to say, but hell, the last thing I need is a distraction.
And she’s become the biggest distraction I’m currently facing. The very last one I need.

Book Review: Working It by Kendall Ryan

Emmy Clarke is out of her depth in New York City’s fashion world, but when she lands a job as an assistant at a modeling agency it seems like the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Working under the notorious Fiona Stone is a nightmare, but there’s one distinct perk: ogling the ridiculously hot male models who parade through the office—particularly rising star Ben Shaw.

Ben is everything Emmy’s not: exquisitely gorgeous, highly paid, and well-traveled. He’s also got more issues than Vogue. Emmy looks after Ben on photo shoots, but she refuses to become another one of his lusting groupies. Ben finds Emmy’s refreshingly real attitude to be surprisingly attractive.

Against a backdrop of the most fashionable cities in the world, casual flirting turns into an illicit affair, but when Ben’s twisted past is revealed, and the bitter Fiona catches wind of their relationship, their careers and hearts are threatened.

My thoughts-

This book made me want to kiss Kendall Ryan! Haha! I’m sure all of you have felt that way about an author at some point…this just happened to be mine! Working It is a sexy book full of wit and a dash of “The Devil Wears Prada!” I couldn’t put it down!

Emmy is super relatable. She is EVERY girl.

The position certainly had its perks. Ogling delicious man candy daily was the main one. Did that make me shallow? No. I didn’t think so. I’d has a bunch of crappy jobs and crappier relationships before all of this. If I wanted to be surrounded by completely delicious and highly unattainable men all day, I felt that was a God-given right. And getting paid to boot- yes please. Sign me up.

And Ben. Oh geez, don’t get me started on Ben.  He says things like, “Let me have you.” Can you imagine?! I’d be like, “okay, um…yes please!”

“Stop assuming you know what I want. I’ve never had a girl like you. Soft…” His thumb caressed my cheek. “Sweet…” His lips pressed over mine. “And southern…” His hand found my backside and he squeezed, pulling me closer. “Let me do this. Let me have you, Emmy.”

I highly recommend this book! It’s one of those books that never gets old…I’m pretty sure I could read it over and over.

My Ben and Emmy-

Blog Tour: For Real by Chelsea M. Cameron

Two people. One fake relationship. What could go wrong? When virgin Shannon Travers gets fed up with her friends demanding that she find a boyfriend, she enlists the help of tattooed, mohawk-rocking graphic design student Jett. He’s more than happy to play along with their Fake Relationship, including the Ten Rules of Fake Dating that control-freak Shannon comes up with. Even if he likes to violate them. Repeatedly. But what happens when Fake Dating starts to feel… not fake anymore? Will Shannon be willing to let go and embrace the first thing in her life that’s ever felt REAL?

My thoughts-

sigh…this book was so good…

I’m a big fan of Chelsea Cameron and I just had to get my hands on her latest book. It was everything I was hoping for. It’s sweet, fun and a fresh take of the typical NA/YA “I’m a virgin” love story. I absolutely adored Jett. Quirky, hot, artsy, Asian…where are these guys hiding in real life?! I just wanna look at one!! I liked his friendship with Javier. I liked how unbelievably cute he is with Shannon. I liked the twist in the story! (whether you figure it out in advance or not, it’s still welcome!)

Shannon was ok. There were a few things about her that bugged me, but it didn’t bother me too much. I was not a fan of her friends. She needs to pick better. I couldn’t imagine staying friends with someone who would pressure me to lose my virginity. Ridiculous.

Overall, this is a sweet story. On a scale from YA to NA, I’d say it’s more YA.

My Jett and Shannon-
